Every Playa! Worldwide's Doc J reviews: SLASH - SLASH

4.5 Stars out of 6: Above-Average Album, a good CD that while still containing a few flaws, it surprisingly has a lot of quality material and replay value.
While claiming to be a Hip-Hop collector and aficionado, Rock music is something I enjoy as well.   While I’m not an avid Rock lis

Thanks to Spreez and the good people here at Every Playa Worldwide!  I’ve been selected as their newest writer.   From what I’m being told:  I’ve been hired to be a qualified music business insider…I’ve been trusted to bring an unbiased analysis of urban music and culture…I’m expected  to bring you gripping and insightful editorials…and I’ve been asked to honestly (yet still respectfully) give my completely uncensored 2 cents to you each week…

Let’s pray that I can deliver for them, lol
Personally… my only HOPE is that I can supply YOU with good hip-hop discussions, share a few interesting stories, possibly educate a couple of people…and eventually be looked at more as “your friend”, instead of just another online journalist.   With that out of the way, lemme introduce myself:

My name’s DOC J…I’m a 28 year old, half-Puerto Rican/half-Italian, who’s originally from Sleepy Hollow, New York.   I currently reside in Clermont, in the heart of sunny central Florida.  I’m a Florida Atlantic University alumni (go Owls!) – with degrees in Commercial Music Business, Civil Engineering, & Copyright/Trademark Law.   Since 1999, I’ve played many vast roles in entertainment:  poet, songwriter, recording artist, mobile DJ, mixtape DJ, producer, promoter, event host, photographer, and published journalist.

Within the last 11 years:  I’ve had poems published in two books; written articles for four publications; worked at two college radio stations; amassed over 800+ stage-hours of DJ experience; gained production placement with two commercial recording artists; released six regionally-successful mixtapes; coordinated the award-nominated Hear My Voice Urban Talent Service Database for 4 years now; and have worked in some form or another with talented companies/artists such as – Sony Records, So So Def Records, Universal Records, Virgin Records, Block Entertainment, Rhymesayers Entertainment, Def Jux Recordings, E1/Koch Records, X102.3 (Palm Beach), 103.5 The Beat (Miami), 95.7 The Beat (Tampa), 88.5FM Truth Radio (Tampa), Select-O-Hits Distribution, Dave Chappelle, Brian McKnight, KRS-One, The Beatnuts, Masta Ace, Mario Vazquez, Ron “Amen Ra” Lawrence, TJ Chapman, Wendy Day, DJ EFN, DJ Suss One, DJ Abyss, DJ Slice, Garcia, Triple J, and many many more.

Regrettably, on the other end of the spectrum: I wear glasses; have worn braces; broke my left collarbone four times; was diagnosed with flat-feet; had to retake Calc 3 five times to pass it; been in love with a psycho girl; lived though a major car accident; successfully beat a lawsuit; watched my parents go bankrupt; handled my younger brother being shot on 2 different occasions; dealt with my father’s suicide; counseled my girlfriend through her father’s death; witnessed my best friend sent away to prison; was laid-off from a job; can occasionally drink excessively too much…and many more personal issues that I’ll probably share on accident at a later time.

All that said though - One fact I’m proud of is that I’ve had to work very hard at every stage of my life…so I like to think that I can relate to nearly everyone’s struggle/life.    Experiencing all of these successes (and failures) I’ve learned many life lessons, and pretty much have an endless amount of stories to share.  So I suggest stick around and stay tuned!  Now I have an open-door policy on contacting me with music business questions, and suggesting new article concepts – so don’t hesitate to reach me via email (Subscribe as a member to EPWorldwide.com and you can address any question to me)

Peace.

Doc J
