Every Playa! Worldwide's Doc J reviews: SLASH - SLASH

4.5 Stars out of 6: Above-Average Album, a good CD that while still containing a few flaws, it surprisingly has a lot of quality material and replay value.
While claiming to be a Hip-Hop collector and aficionado, Rock music is something I enjoy as well.   While I’m not an avid Rock lis

Tommy G has to be the hardest working lyricist from Toronto, Canada’s burgeoning rap scene today.  He is so on fire right now with his over 10 000 recorded songs!  You easily notice that he has the confidence and energy it takes to pull these feats off when you attend one of his nearly weekly live performances in and around the Greater Toronto Area.  Tommy G has confidence, wit and charm that are frighteningly similar to 50 Cent’s.  Well at least back when Fiddy was still hungry!  Maybe that’s why Tommy G is about to unleash a barrage of mixtapes that will take us back to the pre-GRODT days.  Here at Every Playa! – the number 1 website with entertaining, useful and current worldwide hip hop information, news and music downloads as well as the BEST PRICES for hip hop clothing – we all know who Tommy G is and what his music is all about, and so does nearly everyone who follows Toronto’s hip hop scene.
So we thought why not interview Tommy G from the perspective of someone who has never heard of him (living under a rock!).  Well here goes – enjoy!
Tommy G

Every Playa!
You have a very interesting swag when you flow.  How did you develop your rhyming style?

Tommy G:  My style is me – I’m TommY G a character with charisma! I rhyme to match the way the beat speaks to me. I don’t try to mimic nobody.

Every Playa!  For someone not familiar with your work what songs/albums/mixtape would you recommend to start with?

Tommy G: Money in the Bag 2: The Prequel Reloaded. I was on a hiatus for 4 years before I released it, and I matured during that time and developed that mixtape to make it so that everyone could hear something that fit their listening style.

Every Playa!  What kind of message do you believe your fans get from your music?

Tommy G: I’m about having fun, I have some songs that tell you the hard things that I myself went through, but honestly that aint truly what life is about, and it didn’t define me. It’s about working through bad times, to come out a richer person spiritually.

Every Playa!  What's the best thing about what you do?

Tommy G: The adrenaline rush I get each and every time a fan comes up to me and tells me how my music has helped them and travelling to different cities and countries on tour  and being welcomed with love from my fans, which is reciprocated.

Every Playa!  Which other artists have you worked with or would you love to work with?

Tommy G: I haven’t worked with anyone worth mentioning yet, it’s not to say I don’t enjoy working along with my fellow Canadian artists but truly ,I would have loved to work with Bob Marley, Marvin Gay, Rick James  or  Curtis Mayfield – you know  one of the great ones.  As of right now if  I got the opportunity Timbaland , Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry or Akon would be first choices

Every Playa!  What or who has contributed the most to your success?

Tommy G: I got the best management team in the world. Shout out to K tha Boss and SoulVibes Entertainment.

Every Playa!  How would you describe Tommy G to new listeners?

Tommy G: Cop a cd! My music speaks for itself. TommY G is not a rapper, he is a multi-dimensional entertainer. I do this for the listeners.

Every Playa!  What is your motivation to go on in this industry?

Tommy G: The passion and love I have for music – I got tired of hearing that dry spell...music fell off from 2001 til when TommY G came back on the scene ha-ha.

Every Playa!  What can your fans expect from you this year?

Tommy G: TommY G everywhere!

Every Playa!  How did you feel at your first performance?  (Before, during, after)

Tommy G: I was scared shitless because I had so many well-established artists watching me...but when the music started, I was like “Imma do me, if they don’t like me...I’ll cop them some hearing aids!” and I rocked it. Imagine the feeling of people shaking your hand the first time you ever perform and they are telling you how much potential you have. Well, that’s why I’m still here.

Every Playa!  Any words of advice for aspiring artists?

Tommy G: Always take hate as constructive criticism. Don’t believe what anyone tells you – believe in yourself.  What is a dream?...A Dream is an often thought...whereas Reality is Hard work!!!

Every Playa!  You’ve been at this for a little while now, what is the biggest difference you have seen happen in hip hop since you started?

Tommy G: The change in the industry from tapes to cds to digital distribution. Ringtones, Itunes and social network websites have helped a lot with getting our music out there. Almost everyone has access to a computer so music is far easier to obtain.

Every Playa!  From all your world travels so far what have you learnt about hip hop from different regions?

Tommy G: Hip-Hop is HUGE overseas!  Lots of people don’t know that. It’s even shown in the producers I use, lots of them are from Europe. There is a much bigger market for hip-hop in Europe and Asia.

Every Playa!  Finally, as you know we offer the most comprehensive collection of mainstream and underground hip hop clothing on www.epworldwide.com and we know that you’re always rocking da illest get ups so please let the world know what Tommy G be wearing?

Tommy G: Here and there I might wear a bit of Sean John and Enyce, but all in all I’m not a big fan of the whole “urban hip-hop” stereotypical clothing style. I like to dress nicely. On any given day you can catch me in my Jordans and my own brand of clothes TommY-G Wear!
